Meet Bernard & Connie
In 1958, Bernard Cuff heard that stray dogs in his area were to be put down simply for having nowhere to go. He couldn't accept it. So he did something extraordinary he took them in himself. From that single act of compassion, Pine Ridge Dog Sanctuary was born. And right by his side through it all was his beloved wife, Connie, who shared his belief that no dog should ever be left without hope.
For the rest of his life, Bernard gave these dogs everything he had. He spent his own pension and savings on food, medicine, and warm blankets. And as more frightened, abandoned dogs arrived, he and Connie opened up their own home to them their bedrooms, their bathrooms, even their kitchen became places of warmth and safety. No dog was ever turned away. No dog was ever just a number to them.
Bernard's love saved thousands of dogs, and it never asked for anything in return. When he passed, it was his dearest wish that his work would carry on and Connie has honoured that wish ever since, taking over the sanctuary and continuing to shelter, feed, and rehome the dogs who need us most. Today, that same love lives on in everything we do. When you give to Pine Ridge, you carry their kindness forward and you make sure that no dog who needs us is ever turned away.
